snowman, more info, yes hanu is around here

LINKS FIXED!

they should look like this:
http://glencadia.com/videos/07dec31/MVI_8512.MOV

If you go here you will see all the videos:
http://glencadia.com/videos/07dec31/

Look, I know these dogs people say are not in the video are there... Look again. I can look but I'm sure somewhere you'll see Hanu, Neve all over the place...

This is the second entry of the day, so check the entry below. Sawyer just arrived and I haven't gone out to get anything of him but he seems well.

Here is yesterday. Nico Pagoda and no snow.

Okay, after the snow. Samantha and Cloud first light in the morning. Here.

Little Cloud in the snow here.

Too many to mention:

Open the gate and let them out to discover the snow... most of the big guys here.

Here they are again, moving fast.

Even more. Good luck finding your dog here.

Bella, Duece, Hermoine, Norman here.

Molly Franklin and some yellow retriever type. Here.

Another general yard shot with tons of them here.

And here. This is where Hector starts to get wild. Crash into Cindo Loo. A lot of other dogs.

Here Cindy Look gets some attention. The majority of the dogs are in this one.

Another general yard shot. Too many to mention. Here.

Here little Sophie refuses to go up the stairs with snow on them. Eventually she realizes that the snow is more or less irrelevant and she just walks up... Ollie in here too.

General yard shot. Again here.

Beautiful trees covered with snow and Nico and Pagoda. Here.

More of the two above here.

Cloud framed nicely by some trees. Here and even nicer shot here.

Little ones (Tsunami, Theo, Toby, Hanu, Alfie, etc.) and Maple and Stro and Sheine in the next set. Here. And here. More here. Nice trees and little dogs here. More here. Another little crittter here. Yet more here. Yikes! Sheine got away here. Back now...

Mila, Samantha, children making a snowman here. Talking about poopie but there is no poopie, damn it. More with those dogs here.

2 Kids, 2 Dogs, nice playing. Here.

Hand prints in the snow here.

Putting hair on the snowman here.

Bringing a big carrot. Here.

Potatoes here.

cindy loo takes a tumble, hector goes crazy in the snow, cloud turns into a snowball

Hector was a mad man in the snow. He has nice eyes, like eye shadow. Still, he was out of control this morning when he saw the snow. Then a whole bunch of them plowed into poor Cindy Loo. An accident, still, I never see them roll into a tree. They kind of think an animal can get out of the way. Anyway, she was a little shaken up and felt sorry for herself, but she's fine.

Bailey, Neve, others that people have emailed about: they are in a lot of videos. Go back and look again.

Okay, I will go through the list this afternoon and make a new entry, but for now, I'm off. Just have to get some dog food and biscuits since they'll be closed tomorrow. Oh, and I have a lot more to say, so come back in a bit.

Go to this folder if you can't wait for the video by video list.

short entry

If you don't see your dog, s/he is fine. leave a comment and I'll try to fix it for tomorrow -- get more of your dog... TRY. I will do more maybe this afternoon too.

These two can do this all day.

Alfie, Tsunami, Toby, Simon, Mila, Hector is somewhere around.... here and here.

Samantha, not running off today. Putting up with a naughty puppy. Here.

Mila, Nico, Pagoda. Here.

Mila, Luna, Utiok. Our house. Here.

Out for a toot: Fenway, Peter, Buckwheat, Neve, Franklin, Mila. See how Butch, my little dog, tries to attack every group that comes out? No one takes him very seriously. Here. More of them here. Same here-- lot of rolling. One more.

Yard shot... lots in here. Longer and more comprehensive here

samantha sneaks off, casper is just plain naughty, andy walter is finally not nervous, the sunrise is nice with mist, cat that just won't scram

Let me start with today since the dogs are definitely still here.

Wait, yesterday: Jim talking about crime in Schnectedy, Andy Walter and Theo and some horses. Here.

Toby, Chicken, Hermoine, Turbo, Allie, Rocket, Casper, Emm, Rocky, Shiene, Simon, Sam, Fletcher... first thing in the AM, sun coming up. Shiene got moved to the shy, little or old group after this... although she did seem to like the space. I'll rotate the groups on the big field in a minute... here.

Luna and Utiok and Theo (of course)... snow crunching. Here.

Sunrise, mist, Luna and Utiok, Theo, here.

Sheine, Bailey, Casper, Molly, Cindy Loo, Samantha, Rocky, Tattoo, Scuba, Simon, Elton, Fletcher more than that in the yard. Here.

Going out for a run: Turbo, Fenway, Sam, Tattoo, Maggie, Simon, Fletcher (7 dogs?) off to the races here whoooooo!

This group (above) lacked cohesion and discipline. Particularly Samantha. She wandered off to the hay bales the other way around the woods through the horse paddock. She's been here a while and she wanted to explore and, she figured, we always head that way to the bales so she can meet me there. More of this sadly unresponsive group here and, 30 minutes of searching later, Samantha decides I am not going to meet her at the bales and come back here.

Toby, Alfie, Hermonie, Emma, Tsunami, Sheine getting ready for a walk. Here.

Buckwheat, Peter, Rocket, Django, Lucy, Bailey, Sugar in the yard here.

PJ howling here.

Bella in the sun.

Allie, Sophie, Lexus, Oliver, Neve sunrise... here.

New group going for a walk: Bella, Andy, Cloud, Maple, Stro... not so rambunctious. Here.

Came bunch again. Here.

Same bunch as above here.

In the barn. Cloud. Cat should clear out! Open the door: Rocket, Mila, Bailey, Peter, Lucy, Django... we're off. Here. More of this group here. Here again.

The cat still didn't clear out and we're back. And Jim in upstairs. Here.

Another bunch: Molly, Chicken, Buckwheat, Hector, Mila... and Casper. Casper runs off. Always one in a crowd. He doesn't get off the leash again, rascal. Here.

Same bunch here. Again here. Tracking down Casper again here, others follow him to the hay bales...

Duece, Bella and Norman. They had the longest time out in the AM before I had the camera... so here they are in they're own yard.

Nico and Pagoda here. If you want to be this close to my house, you should be quiet... and these two are.

You know, we'll leave the past two days as they are... just dumped online with no descriptions. I can't keep up!

boxing day

I don't have time to do the whole list, describing and linking all the videos. Sorry. Tomorrow I will do that for both today and yesterday (and any new ones for tomorrow). So here is where I dumped all the videos:

http://glencadia.com/videos/07dec26

You'll have to search around today or come back tomorrow for a dog by dog break down... Thanks again for checking the blog, now that I know people are checking in. Beautiful weather today... all dogs seems fine. Maggie is a brat, Samantha is loosing her tolerance for puppies and 3-legged Maggie was acting up a little, Andy's still a little nervous... but all fine. Good luck searching the videos.

merry christmas

I won't have time today to do all the descriptions but hopefully I'll have stuff in the folder:

http://glencadia.com/videos/07dec25

Christmas Fecth Competition:

Manhattan defeats Brooklyn 4 to 3 in overtime... MVP goes to Fenway, Remy gets a yellow card for ball stealing.

merry christmas eve...

I'm just uploading videos now (1 pm EST). If you cannot open a quicktime MOV video, let me know (comment below) and I'll post a version in WMV. If your dogs is not in here, post a comment and I'll run out and get some more shots... I can think of a couple I seemed not to have got.

Couple of our new arrivals are still settling in... the new Bailey was nervous but is good now. Andy too. I think I missed Andy... little cute beagle? I have to do a beagle thing too, I have a couple now.

We have 2 Mollies, 2 Bellas and 2 Balieys... If your dog has a namesake, now you know. If you have a chocolate lab (Fenway, Sophie, Peter, Buckwheat, Maddox, and Edith) you may have trouble finding your dog. Dopplegangers and namesakes.

I mean, in person I know who is who. But on video... I'm not always sure.

The whole folder of videos is here.

Sunny day today, lot of snow melted yesterday. Got cold. The light is much different than last time. You see, it's not always the same. The dogs might be a little different, the weather... the blog changes gradually and subtly.

Olive, Theo and Gali show up in a lot of videos uninvited (and maybe unidentified here in the blog). Olive finally had to go inside after she got into a fight with Molly (the young Molly)... neither Olive or Molly is a fighter but I'm also not shocked they got into a little dust up... captured on video! No harm done, though.

Below is Lexus eating snow, Gustov (my dog) and Mila going at it (they look almost exactly the same and they love each other dearly -- Gustov cannot wait for Mila to come out) and Simon poses nicely, as he does with his nose in the air... some others in the background there.

Weeeeee!!!!

Up is a little more of a drag than down. Here.

Pink light, early morning Nico and Pagoda (from the same family), Maggie, Olive... Hey 2 Maggies too! Pagoda is wonderfully loyal to Nico, although Nico maybe doesn't deserve the devotion. Nico is not one who you can just let out in the pack, free and easy, no concerns. Pagoda is a "no trouble dog." Still, Pagoda would rather be with Nico than out in a big group, even if he has to sacrifice some freedom of movement. That's what I mean by loyal. A nice quality in a dog. What did Nico do to deserve it? Plays too rough with old Pagoda if you ask me... but I don't interfere in matters of the heart. Here. Seem to be the same characters in this one too.

Add Bella and Theo to the list above and a lot of pink to the light, Olive busy in the woods. Here.

Olive, Bella, Duece maybe... don't know. Here.

Here is Cindy Loo on her traditional after-walk search for her little friend. This time she didn't go to the house but checked over by the wood shed. Still nothing. Another loyal character. Horses make a little cameo. Here.

Next group for a walk: Buckwheat (unless it's Peter), Echo, Maddox, Django, Theo, Theo, Molly, PJ... catch the squash here.

Next group: Django, Franklin, Olive, Sophie (I think), no Maddox, Molly, Olive, Theo... here.

Franklin Django... Olive and Molly fight... chocolate labs. Here.

Wait, same group but it's Rocket... go back and look Rocket is getting humped by Djago, Franklin's rolling, Buckwheat eating squash..... then the real fight with Molly and Olive... two tough females. No injuries of any kind. Here.

Lucy, Ngaio, Sophie, Elvis, PJ, Neve, Remy, Gali, Theo: Remy lead Ngaio off in the wrong direction (which is funny because they are buddies from the Upper West side) and Jim had to send them back to me. I think it's all Remy fault, even though Remy came back first and Ngaio was still fooling around over in the manure pile. Lucy was checking out the van and wandering around the barn. Yup, for no reason at all, I put all the blame on Remy. And Manhattan. The Brooklyn dogs all come when they're called. Wait, no, Lucy is from Brooklyn. Well, I'll settle this with a massive Brooklyn versus Manhattan fetch competition... tomorrow. Here or here and here.

Same group as above but over in another area, by the big round bales. PJ sticks her nose on the lens here. More here. And here.

Next up (on this walk if not in every video): Bailey (x2), Duece, Hanu, Scuba, Maggie, Nigel, Gali, Theo, Jackson, old Emma. Some funny stuff: Gustov yanking Hanu's leash. Emma falling down in the snow-- wait, an old dog having trouble walking in icy high snow is not funny. Okay, that she suckered me into thinking she couldn't keep up and I went back to look for her and she had scooted over to the house lickety split. Bailey rolling. Here and here and here and here and here and here and here and here.

Here is the end of the group above and the one who went to the porch today. Emma... and all above.

Next group: Simon (who poses), Jackson, Fenway, Elton, Tattoo, Mila: Whoooooo!

Same as above here. More of them here, including Gustov (my dog) and Mila in love. And here.

Same as above plus my family going for a walk here.

Maple and Stro going to the horses. Maple is much better today. She seems to have good and bad days. She was anxious to go play with the dogs in the yard and she did. Here.

New group: Bella, Toby, Samantha, Ella, Molly, Cloud, Gila. Here. Same here plus Jim getting water. And here.

Jim carrying water. Black dog here.

Andy here.

back by (somewhat) popular demand: the dog blog

I had to check. About 25% of the people commented or emailed. Just, I had some broken links up and no one wrote to tell me so I thought, jeeze, if people aren't reading it...

Some technical notes. The videos get blurry. Between the dog noses and the snow, it's hard to keep a clean lens. Oh well. And if you go to the folder (after about 4 pm 12/22/07 EST) you will see file names with MOV or WMV. The quicktime (MOV) files are a little bigger. The windows media format files should work on more computers. I will only link the MOV files here but if your computer won't open quickltime, change the last three letters to WMV. Any other problems, let me know. Thanks.

That's the slide show. Here are some other videos in reverse chronological order.

Here are Maple and Stro. I let them out in the yard with everyone else in the early AM and Maple still wants to play. Stro wants to watch. But then they got cold, even though it's pretty warm today, so they went up to a nice warm room. I didn't take them back out for a longer walk and video ... but here they are.

When it was Django's turn to go out, he kept going the wrong way and generally not getting with the program. Here he is, going the wrong way. I'll make sure he gets in a long walk and some better videos tomorrow.

Bella, Norman in the hay field by the yard. Gustov takes Bella for a walk. Here.

Here are Norman and Bella with Buckwheat.

Luna and Ataturk. Wait, not Ataturk, that was the George Washington of Turkey. Utiok. Sorry... They rumble pretty rough. Another Husky characteristic. An intimate couple. Here.

Bella here. Bella seemed nervous for awhile. Now she's seems quite content... actually much better only today. She also couldn't deal with these icy stairs, that was a production. She's a different dog today, though. She used to kind of jump away when I pet her... now she comes to me and wags her tail, which is great.

There are 2 Bellas!!!!

Echo, Sugar and Ella went to visit the horses. As you can see, Sugar barked at them, Echo wasn't too sure he shouldn't run home and Ella was more or less indifferent. Echo was a little antsy on the ride and even this morning... but he's settled in now. Here they are. And here. The second one has the horses. Oh, and here.

Tattoo, Apple Ginger, Neve, Remy, Elvis, Ngiao on this walk in the pumpkin patch. Here and here and here and here and here.

Theo and Toby. Cameo by Ngiao. How did Ngiao get in here? Didn't come back with the others... and here.

Simon, here.

Rocket, Beanie, Molly, Simon, Lucy, Ngaio: here and here and here.

5 Chocolate Labs: Peter, Buckwheat, Edith, Maddox and Sophie. They wouldn't pose nicely together for a family shot. I'll work on that tomorrow. Here and here and here and here.

Are these more of the labs here?

Here's Nigel and our little conversation. He does seem to respond somehow. He slipped off the the porch to express his desire to go in the house. Didn't happen... tried the back porch for awhile, then he seemed happy to go back with the others. Walk up to the house...

Cindy Loo seemed to be looking for her little friend... going up the house, jumping up on the window to look in. Here she is after all that.

Mila, Gustov, Elton, Nigel, around the hay bales. Here.

Bailey, Mila, Gustov, Nigel, Elton, Samantha, Scuba, Franklin. Here and here.

More of the above group. Here and here and here.

Small or old group. Molly, Emma, Alfie, Gila, Theo (who pops up elsewhere now that I think about it). Here and here and here and here and here.

Or here with Theo and Wellington.

Nico Pagoda first thing in the morning (hear the volume of the other jealous dogs!). Here and here. Yesterday here.

Maggie Blue and Olive here and here and here.

Early morning yard shot. If you dog was picked up on 12/21... in here.

Olive again here and here.

Wellington. Someone else... wellington runs to house. Here.

Franklin Apple Ginger Samantha here.

General yard shot with tons of dogs (too many to mention) here and hereand here ...

and here is Neve.

well, that makes things easier

I have a camera full of videos of dogs and things I could say but what's the point? I got emails from people asking about how their dogs are doing that show no signs of having looked at this blog, phone calls asking about their dogs (which I won't answer or return if I can help it: I'll call you if something important happens) and NO COMMENTS on any of the past entries... so no one is reading this I guess. Fine, I won't put the effort into it.

Thursday, December 20, 2007

write comments...

if I don't get comments once and awhile on this blog, I won't do it so much because I will think no one is looking at this. So comment to let me know you stopped by. And look at the entry below this one.

unexpected snow, Jim drove (nice for me), sugar is the hero, photo day

Hang in there with this video. There are a bunch of dogs coming.

So sugar is the hero for catching rats and mice. 3 so far! I mean, they're all cute and nice but only one, so far, is useful. Nigel seemed a little intimated by a large group... I need to get some nice snow/husky shots since I have two here. Beautiful snow in the morning and I tried to get some nice portraits.

If you see a picture of your dog on the slideshow embedded in this blog entry (above), then you can go the folder here and pick one of the IMG jpegs and you can have it.

A shot of most of the dogs when I praise Sugar for a job well done: Here or here.

So let's do the videos. Gustov pushed the cat in the running stroller. Here or here.

Try again to get the shot. Here or here.

How would you like to be this cat living in a barn with this many dogs? Here or here.

Here is the roll call shot -- almost all dogs in this one. First thing in the morning (sun barely up) when I get to go out and see who's here... since I didn't drive last night. Here or here.

Stop playing with dogs and take Ollie to school bus. Here or here.

Here comes the bus, Ollie has his card for the driver. Here or here.

Driveway. Here or here.

Bella and Norman. Here or here.

Ice. Here or here.

Ice dripping. Here or here.

Molly, Ozzy, Nico Pagoda. Here or here.

Nigel, Cindy Loo, Bailey, Maddox, Buckwheat. Here or here. Here or here. Here or here. Here or here.

Molly, Scuba, Jackson, Sugar, Edith, Apple Ginger. Here or here. Here or here. Here or here. Here or here. Here or here.

dogs attack a gingerbread house, sit by woodstove, run through snow

With this fire on, the place is quite warm... don't worry your dogs are cold. Not with this baby cooking along.

Let me knock out the videos (describe them) then I will do a little reportage on the dogs... these videos are from the last week really, back from today. You can see all of them here or you can click the links below.

Wouldn't it be great to have a coat like a bear and the upbeat personality of a friendly puppy and both want and be able to roll in the snow like this for hours, no future, no past, just you, comfortable in the snow? Here.

It is ice-rain-snow right now and they don't seem to hang outside when I leave the door open, so I closed it. Nice and warm like that. And I opened up a lot of space so they can play inside, or get away and be by themselves... Here is the indoor space with a lot of dogs. but when I let them out in the morning, they were excited enough as usual. Here is almost everyone out in the yard.

Macey has a habit of going upstairs and getting stuck. Or is that Miles? Also inside here is Helmut, Mack, Bella, Molly. Here you go.

Samantha is mostly Husky and was basking out in the snow all day yesterday. Today she just sat under the heat lamp. I know it was ice/rain but here ancestors would be ashamed of her. Here she is in a dark video. Ozzy pops up in there too.

This is the first shot this morning as the sun comes up (low light) and virgin snow and almost all the dogs somewhere in here.

Just some Christmas spirit here.

Dogs around the fire here.

Well, some critter-- not a dog, not a rat, not a mouse, maybe a opossum or a weasle or something -- BROKE INTO MY HOUSE and ate our gingerbread house. I removed the chocolate and, well, you might not approve, but it's mostly flour and butter, a little sugar won't kill them... off to the dogs with the gingerbread house. Here a pack of dogs eat a weasled-gingerbread house.

More Christmas spirit here.

Mack, Sugar, Buckwheat, Finn, Molly here, coming home from a walk.

Same as above out in new snow here and here or here.

Sajj and some horses here.

The whole group before the latest snow here and here.

And a lot of these guys (Winston, Scuba, Tibet, Lucy, Ziza) are already home this video is so old. But it's nice.

Here is Jim's video of Sajj, Buckwheat, Finn.

Same as above with some other dog and me here.

So that gives some sense of what is going on around here. Bella was going after Sugar, but Sugar kept wanting to play with her, wasn't really fighting but seemed rough. They seem to like each other. Sugar is back at a hole waiting for a mouse now, I'm sure. What else? Well, that's enough for today. See ya.

quick post before the next storm

I got some dog names screwed up at the beginning... Mack and Buckwheat reversed. All straight now. I have some video of dogs that are home already.

I'll go through the videos later. Some are up here. More to come.

slippin' and slidin'

Well, there is a dog in here... Ozzy counts as a dog. Better to have four legs on this ice.

Juan Diego and Lela from the other day here.

Yard shots with everyone else here and here.

Jim's lower res but faster upload camera:

Juan and Diego want to come in the house here.
Juan and Diego on my sliding on the driveway here.
Same as above here.
TIbet Bella Ziza out and about here.
Same as above here and here and here and here.
Ozzy Scuba Winston Lucy here and here and here and here.
Lela with Gustov (who walks Lela for Jim) here and here and here.
Dark here.

tibet thinks she owns the place, ziza runs into the swamp and ruins trip to corn, juan and diego are ready to go to California

And all those videos will be available later today. Right now I have to go. I owe you all videos and I have tons to upload tonight. Sorry for delay. I'll do some write up now and post later. When I do get them all up they will be here. For now, you have to search for your dog. I might be able to label them soon. The ones that end in MPG are by Jim and the MOV are by me. Mine are higher res but there are more by Jim, over a couple of days. Look through Jim's for your dog as I just wrote mine up at the bottom here.

Later today you will see Tibet bark at me when I come up the driveway (Jim's video) until she realizes I'm supposed to be there. Good job Tibet. That's the kind of dog I need around here. A big group of us were heading on a long walk to the corn field but Ziza was naughty and zipped away... so we didn't make it. Lucy barks at some horses.

Ozzy came in the house some... now, I'm not making that a precendent but she was the only small one out there, except Juan and Diego and they don't count. And Ozzy likes my little one Butch... and the baby likes Ozzy.

On the way home Bill sat in the back with my kids as promised and Ollie, my 5 year old, used him to prop his head up as he slept. That was cute but I don't have a picture. Worked out fine with four people and 5 dogs for 3 hours.

NEWS FLASH: Videos are going up now.

Juan Diego Lela here.
Winston Ziza Moki Petra Tibet here.
Same group here and here and here.
Bill and Lucy here.
Ozzy and Butch and others here and here.

snow! hugo chavez looses, vladmir putin wins, iran is innocent, and SNOW!

Here is a video for now and I'll try some more later:

Winston wasn't too sure about me when I got him at the Doggie Daycare... but in the car he remembered we're friends. Lela seemed cool with everyone, but why take chances?

Jim was by here this morning and took some more pictures I can upload later. Lucy, Tibet, Winston... all seem to love snow. Lela, maybe... Ozzy is too friendly with me to notice. Ziza is used to it.

I thought I would put some world politics in the dog blog today, as variety is the spice of life. A penny saved is a penny earned. Cursed to live in interesting times. A bird in the hand beats two in the bush. If first you don't succeed, try, try, again. Any more?

How about a riddle: My left side goes up all day long but never reaches the sky. My right side goes down all day long but never touches the earth. What am I?

An escalator!

not so rushed... now all the videos

See the previous post. I didn't get a chance to upload and described the videos. Here is one that google let me upload:

Go here to see all the videos and pictures> here.

I wanted to use this one as the featured video but it didn't work... maybe too long.

Here is the hot air balloon after it passed over the dog fence, maybe intentionally. It certainly stirred them all up. Video here.

Here are some of Cougar and Casper, as promised... but I took them by themselves this time: here and here and here

Crumb, Theo on the pine road here.

Crumb rolling in the grass here. He's deaf, isn't he?

Pete Princess Remy Moki Layla Xena here.

The group above has gone through the pumpkin field to the hay field here.

Same group as above here -- princess being bossy.

In the barn with Norman, Wellington, Moki.. and Wellington ATTACKS Norman... who has balls and I forgot Wellington does that. No one was hurt... Norman showed restraint. Exciting FIGHT video here.

Ziza and my puppy here.

Weird video with peanut and archie here.

Peanut Chicken Scuba Archie Django Zeppy Ziza here and here and here and here.

Lola Daisy Lucky Clover Sally Shiloh Mowgli here and here and here and lucky does it again, running right to the edge of "oh on" and coming back. And same group here.

Same bales with Cocoa, Molly and Hudson here and here rolling and here in the barn again.

Rocky was supposed to go with the group above but he hung out with Jim in the barn while we were gone. They all (Rocky too) just walk back in nice and civilized here.

disjointed, oddly written, incomplete, teaser entry: hot air balloon, hay bales, geese, timer

First of all, I don't think I put up enough of Cougar and Casper and I will remedy that today. Also, almost everyone is going home tomorrow so we made sure to get nice long walks in for everyone -- and I videoed a lot of it and there will be a lot of videos. I tired using the time and putting the camera on a hay bale. And I have cougar and casper here on the front page. I will be emailing everyone about getting some more people to change from delivery (dog drop off) tomorrow to Tuesday delivery. A hot air balloon passed right over the dog yard early in the morning and I didn't have my camera. They went crazy. I did manage to run back and get my camera to get the balloon but not the full effect. You'll get a sense of the madness.

Stop: my processor is running slowly because I am converting all the videos now and my family is clamoring to go out so let's just call this blog entry "disjointed, oddly written and incomplete, a teaser entry" and hold off until I have more time and all the videos are already converted and uploaded. But they'll be good-- dogs doing all sorts of interesting things -- so check back.

sunny cold day trying the new video blogger software

It seems like this software only allows me to upload one video per video entry. How's this work?

So you may still need the folder here.

Here is Jim throwing some tennis balls (donations of old tennis balls always welcome!) out in the yard with most of the dogs in there.

http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov23/dogyard-tenisballs.MOV

Here is Jim in the barn with some dogs and nice light:

Here is yesterday afternoon with most of the dogs:

http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov23/MVI_7835.MOV

This is Scuba, Wellington, Princess, my dogs, Crumb, Theo

http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov23/houseyard1.MOV

Wellington, Theo, Scuba, Princess, Crumb in the driveway:
http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov23/driveway.MOV

Here's the story of Winston: he kind of started to put up with me more but he still only really loves women. He barely tolerates me and loves my wife. I had to bring him back to the house so she could fix his halter... he might bite me if I tried to fix it. Theo also makes a cameo in one of these.

more expansive entry after turkey... with links

Hey, Google upgraded the blogger software. I can put the videos right into the entry next time.. no clicking or linking... this will be great. Next time.

Getting turkey ready for dogs here.

One method to get turkey to dogs: throw it. Here.

Another method: mix with food and hand it out. Here.

Another way: hand it to them. Here.

Tucker eating turkey here.

Dark close up of turkey... here.

For yard shot with Jim and I talking about who has balls (three in the group who need to be kept apart)-- here or higher res here.

Norman and Archie have testicles and Norman went after Archie a little... but no harm done. Have to keep them apart. And Archie was ready for fetch 15 seconds after that, so I guess he's fine psychologically too.

I will describe and link them all later -- plus I have more of dogs eating turkey, but that was difficult to shoot as it was a mad house. And I put my camera somewhere in the barn. It'll show up in a bit... so, in short, more is coming.

thanksgiving bunch in place

Here are the pertinent folders for yesterday:
http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov20/

and today:
http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov21/

I mention yesterday because I didn't upload the movies until this morning. No one complained, which lead me to think no one is reading this blog or looking at the videos (which were missing) and that I'm wasting my time.

I thought it was nice to have a place where you can see some of what your dog is up to but if you would rather not stop by to see... then I'll cut it out. You can leave a note in the comments section to let me know you stopped by-- or I won't bother!

And about the files in the folder: if they end in MPG, Jim made them. His camera is worse than mine but his videos are much easier to upload and download quick. Also, he got a few names wrong but I labelled them correctly.

My videos end in WMV or MOV. The quicktime MOV movies are high res than the WMV versions. One or the other should work on most computers. They are the same, just different formats. I tried to embed video into this page but so far there is no easy way (has to be easy since I do so many every day).

I've also added a lot of stills today. They end in PCT.

I videoed a thing I do all the time but rarely post up here. I call it Holding Court. That's the video called "All Ears All Dogs." Basically I sit there and scratch everyone behind the ear if they want it.

Also, I did some match making. I have a nice arrangement now. I've been doing this a few years and I feel like I just know which dogs belong together, even if I can't immediately explain why. As the day goes on, as the videos get made, I start to figure it out. So by the end, different dogs are in different places.

My nervious dogs are Xena and Woodrow, although Woodrow is almost completely comfortable with me now. He did come for a scratch during Holding Court after the battery ran out. Anyway, he's cool now. Xena looks at me with a friendly face when I call her but doesn't come. I think she was intimated by the number of dogs, so she's with the smaller and/or shier dogs now.. dogs like Wellington, Ziza, Peanut, Crumb, Bernie... and my spillers, Moki and Norman, need to stay away from the buckets. Also, Woodrow hates Norman. They have balls, they can't help it. Princess is her usually bossy self but I've had her here so many times and she's never been involved in an incident -- a yellow card once, but no red card -- that I don't worry about it. Theo needed special treatment. I just let him wander by himself all morning, then sit in a room. He hates certain big dogs but it seems to change who he hates. He'll get himself hurt. Most of them don't come to mind immeidiately because they're just fine and happy and I don't need to worry about them: Sally, Layla, Django, Shiloh, etc... no issues.

That's the story for today. If I don't have any comments or emails, I might skip the videos... anyway, things are good here and all dogs are doing well.

second entry of the day- rain stopped

Look at the entry below for links and shots in and around the barn. I took everyone out for a toot and the videos in the are labelled by name: Hudson was stubborn, Xena nervious, Woodrow biased, Molly won the fetch contest, Princess was bossy and obdient as always, Lucky was surprisingly naughty, everyone is flithy, Wellington in a bad mood, maybe rain, he perked up when I let him in the ... nevermind. Can't think of anymore adjective-dog associations. Pete is a kindred spirit with my puppy Gustov (black one in the video) -- playful. I got everyone but Theo in the videos I think. Theo got time out for attacking a dog five times his size. Winston is in the house. He hates me but likes my family. He hates me so much I can't really deal with him. Okay, I'm back to the city now. More dogs coming in tomorrow's blog.

All dogs not mentioned in the paragraph above are simply having a fine time.

The videos with number in the names have almost all dogs in every video: from this morning when the weather was terrible. The fetch contest is in one of those at the end.

early blog entry on an icey morning

If your dog is not in the online reservation system, you should make a reservation at glencadia.com so that we know where to go and when to bring your dog back. I also want to vaccine info in the database. And check your reservation to make sure the return date is right. And if you can take your dog back on Tuesday next week instead of Monday, that would be great. I need to get some more over to Tuesday... if I can.

Like Hudson, please try it again. I like to have everything (important infor) where I can find it: in the database.

The weather is terrible this morning so we went easy on the walks. Also, almost every dog is in almost every video so I didn't go through the list-- except Winston, he's by himself. I did a thing with fetch, Brooklyn dogs versus Manhattan dogs, and Brooklyn cleaned house. But it was freezing rain and everyone knows that Brooklyn dogs play better in bad weather. We'll have another round later when the weather improves. It stopped raining already.

Woodrow is the only one from New Jersey and that must be the problem... he's nervious. Actually, not too bad. He's coming around. He likes some of the dogs and he'll sit if I tell him to but he is nervious... he'll be fine tomorrow.

We got in and settled everyone down last night and we had so many old timers... It's great to see so many old friends back. A couple new ones, which is nice, but the old timers keep things mellow.

Here are the videos:

snow (cold) to sunshine (warm) in one hour

here is the folder:
http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov17

I might try the html posting system in the latest version of quicktime. Didn't work last time.

So Toby comes to me all the time inside the fence but I was nervious about him so I didn't let him off the leash. Rocky got himself upstairs but couldn't walk down... Dewey was better today, walking around, eating well. Wellington took off and went to the house.

7639: snow same dogs as below
7640: dewey wellington ollie theo saji ruby cole (pumpkin field)

friday, daughter's birthday, mellow dog group

so you go to:

http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov16

The three videos all have all dogs... including me putting my knee up when Wellington jumps on me (standard procedure) although he doesn't seem to like it... Jim talking about Cole and Dewey and their health (fine)... throwing the wood chips on the floor and on Rocky.

So Dewey is okay. I'm making some rice with chicken out in the barn in the rice cooker I have out there right now for him (and everyone else gets a taste). He likes this one spot and I put a blanket there for him. I just turned on the heat lamps: it's getting cold. I may yet make a fire for them tonight.

Cole isn't barking and, no, he won't hang out with Ollie (my son Ollie). I got the info about dropping off Ollie in the city on the 16th. Thanks for sending in the amending the reservation.

The still photo in the folder above is Lotta on her first birthday.

lame blog entry

Open this folder:

Look around for your dog.

How's that for lame? I'm tired. I must have lyme's disease. Or a teething baby and the flu. Or narcolespy. Wait, is that stealing stuff? No, that cletpomaniancy. A theocracy? No, that's Iran. Or Washington, DC. Sleepy? Dopey? Doc? Idiocy?

Okay, see you tonight for delivery/pick up.

This is something cool that iPhoto does:

sorry i didn't blog before -- I was away

Jim was holding down the fort while I was away. Jim's videos are in the folder, as well as mine from this afternoon.

All the dogs are fine. I called Petra Elvis in one video -- they look alike and Elvis was here when I left. Petra limped a little -- she does that... let me know if I need to do something else.... Eleda has been sleeping in a crate with the door open but she seems to like it there. A few dogs were afraid to get in the van on Thursday -- it might have been one of the other dogs. They are all well now.

Open this folder:

endless flocks of black birds, ruby chasing what tail she has, jim cleaning the woodstove, juan troll and diego troll, rain

http://glencadia.com/videos/07nov06

I got back at about 1 am and had to deal with a crying baby, my wife had to work, and luckily Jim showed up for work on Tuesday again. So let's see what we have:

comic relief, since the hollywood writers are on strike:
7359, 7360

7372: here are the troll pumpkins
7373: family inspection of troll pumpkins
7374: bernie, finn, maddox, pj, tibet in pumpkin field

So I was told not to let bernie off the leash, but I had some chicken in my pocket and she loved it (nothing special about that). Of course, she took off. Of course, she came back wet and full of briers about 5 minutes later. She did have a good time, at least.

7375: geese overhead, arrow, lola, adelaide, hermoine, pj
7376: ruby
7377: ruby and THESE BIRDS: they are black and brown, the brown ones are smaller, they come in vast flocks (this video does not do justice to the size and sound of these endless lines of birds) there are more black ones than brown (more like juvenile/adult rather than male females) slightly bigger than a sparrow -- they just come and come and come, then they all land in a few trees in one spot and noise is intense, then off they go, they hang around for a month or so in the fall
7378: inside, walk done, breakfast done, clean up done, and now jim is cleaning the stove and we chit chat about the dogs
7379: ruby chases tail (or lack of tail) and eveyone else watches inside cozy and warm

now for some non dog videos:

That's my son's movie.

Here he is making the next one (The Making of...):

potholes, ground hogs, jack-o-laterns, and of course eveyone's dog

So open this folder:

http://glencadia.com/video/07nov02

I got back really late last night because of strange late night construction and traffic and nonsense... but the dogs were really good on the way up. I wanted to get nice shots of all the dogs running through the fields but I was too tired to get out there this morning when Jim was walking them, and he forgot his camera. Anyway, I promised something so I just went out and got some video of what they're up to now -- arrow and archie are both from park slope and seem to like each other, finn and cleo are another nice couple, sheina was nervious in the car and here a little, but not too bad and ended up pretty affectionate by the end of the ride, cleo drewled all the way upstate, finn crawled in my lap, ruby had her paws on the dashboard, hermoine broke the divider down and jumped in the back seat from the trunk area: like I said, a very quiet calm ride, relatively speaking.

7350: all the dogs in one movie
7349: people around here are into making fancy pumpkins... there were better ones than this... and I didn't even shoot the waldorf school pumpkins, amazing-- do people in the city go all out like this?
7342: trick or treat
7326: this is really wild -- WILD LIFE VIDEO: small dog attacking a ground hog -- and he seems to have mortally wounded the ground hog since he has barely moved from that spot for two days... yikes

theo today, fog video tricks, what happens to all the dog sh*t, blankets, and one really loud horse fart

I noticed that Theo was left out of yesterday's blog... don't know how that happened. Sorry Theo's people. He's all over the place today. Also, it was foggy and I was working on some nive fog videos as I took Ollie to the bus and let the horses out, trying to get a goose flying off into the fog. Instead I got a terrific horse fart. Also, I show some of the unpleasant things here: bags of sh*t which need to go the dump. Jim comes at 1 pm today and I might get him to make a dump run. And every day with the balnkets! Hang them up, fold them. Yes, I can hire people to do this kind of thing (shit, blankets) but unless I saty right on top of them it isn't done right... and it's too much work to supervise them so I just do it myself. Dangnabit. I put an ad in the paper and got like 76 responses but I still don't have the staff thing right. Folks just don't like shit. And the balnkets got a little wet this morning so I hope it clears up so they dry.

Here is the folder for today:
http://glencadia.com/videos/07oct18/

7042: goose in fog

7052: bird sounds and fog... feel the fall?

7064, 7065, 7066, 7067: theo with my dogs

7068: pony farts, kicks, farts louder, joins horses and disappears into the fog

7069: truck full of shit

7070, 7071, 7072: in and around the dog house and yard, blankets, play, whatever

I'm going back to bed now. Babysitter is here. I have to drive tonight... pick up 8 dogs. End of dog blog for today.

my son hid the key to the car and ate a bone, mendl son the hay bale jumping competition

The folder for this entry is: http://glencadia.com/videos/07oct17/

The dogs and the videos come at the end of the entry...

This morning we discovered that the Prius was locked and couldn't find our only key (the other was left in the grass and destroyed by the lawn mower). I called Toyota to ask if the smart key was smart enough to know that if it's locked in the car it should open the door. They told me that unless someone disabled the smart key fuction by pressing a button under the dash, it should open when you pull the handle.

This whole situation seemed like my son Ollie's handwork. Ollie, 5, has been known to do some pretty naughty things. I racked my brain for another explanation, but it just had Ollie's name written all over it. Anyone might have misplaced the key but no one else would have locked the car. And then there was the fact that the instructions about how to turn on the car, for valet parking, little sheets of paper, were strewn all over the front seat... evidence was mounting.

I thought of calling the school to have the teacher ask Ollie where he hid the key so my wife could get to work, as she already had to cancel one appointment. But I didn't think that would work: he needed to be interviewed face-to-face.

Turns out, he had a traumatic day at school. They were walking in the woods near the witch's house (Baba Yaga) when someone stumbled into a yellow jacket hive. He swears that there is a sign in the woods that says, "Keep out! Yellow jackets." But of course he can't read. He claims the teacher read the sign to the class, then proceeded to march the whole group right into the woods, where they were promptly attacked by yellow jackets.

Yes, there is a witch's house in the woods with a trap door in the floor. Really.

Two kids were stung and one had stings all over him and had to go to the hospital. Ollie didn't get hit but was still upset. Walking down the driveway after he got off the bus, he told me there is a kind of wasp with a stinger as big your fist... he saw one with Momma by the pine road... or maybe Ruby told him about them... not the ones they saw today... but if that kind of bee stings you, you die right away. And they live right here in our woods. Then he complained that everything itched, his neck, his hands...

Well, that's all very interesting and I'm sorry Ben had to go the hospital but, Ollie, were you playing with the key to Skippy? (We name our cars and the Prius is Skippy.)

"I don't think so."

You know if we don't find the key, we can never drive the car again.

"Really?"

And if you lost the key, that would be your fault. Maybe you should think again and see if you remember.

"Oh.. let me see... I think I might have played in the car when Finn was visiting for a play date."

Do you remember where you put the key?

"Let's see... I think I put it somewhere very easy to find... It was in my pocket and I took it out... someplace very easy to find... I can't remember exactly where... it would be easier to remember where I put it if I knew for sure I wasn't going to get in trouble."

Okay, if you can remember soon, like in 5 minutes, you won't get in trouble.

"Let's look in the guest house."

It was not in a place easy to find. But he did not get in trouble. And while We were looking we found 48 dollars, US currency, and 15 Euros in his play cash register.

We had a new baby sitter, a German girl, just arrived, here later and they went for a long walk down to the waterfall. When she got back to the house, out of breath and excited, she said:

"I have to say this: Ollie chewed a bone."

Well, if he hides keys, who knows, maybe he chews bones... but it seems really, truly wierd.

"You mean, he found a bone on the way home and chewed it?"

"Yes, right over here by the road. Not one, many bones he ate them."

"He ate a bone? THAT HE FOUND ON THE ROAD?" The neighbor did slaughter a cow yesterday (and gave us some dynamite steak) and I'm sure there are bones around her place but as crazy as Ollie is, he wouldn't rip one out of the mouth of the neighbor's dog and eat it.

"Ollie, did you eat a bone?"

"No, I ate some beans though."

Oh, beans, not bones, from the string bean field next to the house. We eat those every day all day long. That doesn't seem to remarkable.

"Did you bring any home for dinner?"

"But," said the new babysitter, "if you don't cook the beans before you eat them they are poison."

This is the second time a German woman has told me raw beans are deadly. "No," I said, "watch." I picked a bunch of beans, ate them, passed some more to Ollie, gave one to the baby. "They're better raw."

"My mother said they were poison. Oh."

So onto the dogs:

4 chocolate labs in one shot, taking the baby into the dog house, pumpkins, tomatoes, a joke

I was in the middle of taking all the dogs out when our little Lotta (called Lotti-lu by me) complained and started to fall asleep and I had to break up the video shoot... so some dogs will be in the shot later today which I may not post until tomorrow.

Our neighbor Bill Gumaer told me how he used to put his daughter on his back when he went out to milk his cows and how nice that was -- and I thought at the time I could never do that with the dogs: too dangerous. They jump up on you, try to knock you over, might even intentionally hurt the baby... but today I took her out in the sling and did the whole dog thing and it was fine. I have to be real strict about jumping up... I guess I could also put her on my back too, that might be more comfortable and safer. But it would be great to be able to take her with me when I work out there with these guys...

fall birds, mendl destroys a squash, whyatt runs down the driveway, geese flying around, moki naughty....

so the videos for this entry are from three days: friday, saturday and sunday. The ones ending in MOV or WMV are min and the MPG ones Jim made when I was out... all of these videos are here:

http://glencadia.com/videos/07oct13

some highlights and notes: terrific weather, I was in the city so Jim pitched in on Friday... turkey season is on and just to be on the safe side we'll stay out of the other side of the field and wait a little before going for a walk. I hope Shannon get the turkeys and not that dude who works for the dairy farm, the wood guy. Shannon, my neighbor, cuts trees, slaughters and butchers animals, hunts with a bow and arrow, breaks horses and she has a nice figure and wears nice outfits when she jumps out of her pick up with a chainsaw or rides off with her bow to scout for deer... She can do anything: fix a car, cut a tree, break a horse, kill a cow, find a deer, grow a tomato, has all abucket truck and log splitter. We're boarding her horse. I'm kind of impressed with her. Especiallythe way she wears work clothes so stylishly. .... Nothing here escaped my wife attention so far by the way...

It's like these kids over at Hawthorne valley. You see a big tractor rolling down the road and there is a teenage girl with overalls and a very cool knit cap on. What could be cooler than that? Rural can be a lot cooler than any media images I'm familiar with. I think there is a marketing plan in here. Rural dirty cool-- no country music, familiar with the world, but outside working, organic biodynamic, wool... dirt, tired, log splitter, pick up, laptop, hip hop. Something like that.

here are some of what we have:

6937: pushkin, juan diego whyatt (before he ran off to the neighbors), sawyer my puppy gustov in the pasture/hay field -- pushkin is a puppy and belongs to my wife's boss... The GEESE: I Got them flying right between the lines of the electric pole! then gustov took pushkin and whyatt for walks

6938: moving off from the geese to the same dogs as above

6939: everyone goes to get whyatt. the big black dog here is MORITZ who used to be our dog but my mother's dog died and he was always wandering off to hunt (including killing 15 chickens in 20 minutes -- ours, rare breed assortment). he thought he should bring whyatt back. unfortunately, whyatt kept going all the way down to the nieghbor's house... and we had to follow him. Got him back, little naughty rascal. Mortiz is back because my mother is at a wedding in RWANDA. Here is the couple at their betrothal ceremony: eric-ines.jpg -- nad here is with his best men: eric-guys.jpg (same folder as above). Eric is 6'3" and the shortest in the group.

6916: very early friday sawyer around barn door

6917: out in the yard before 7 am, everyone out

6918: opening another door -- maybe breaking them up for breakfast-- especially edith, man is she greedy

6919: more rooms, buddy some others

6941: same as above

6943: same

6944: there! here i got the 3 labs in one shot!

6947: NIKA -- nika growls at me on the street in brooklyn. she does it every time and has to wear a muzzle in the van. i had to be careful that she wouldn't bite Jim, who she didn't like at all. but look at this_- she love me here. she's a perfect angel. strange.... she runs, she comes, she's affectionate, she plays with other dogs...

6948: this is the yard today -- i had to trick buddy into coming back in -- another naughty one. oh, but I'm working on another perfect goose shot.

6949: yard again, all dogs

6950: spencer mismisu (husky) deciding which way to go as we leave the barn (north is the pumpkins, straight west in the horses and south is the pasture and green beans field

6951: spencer and mismisu listening to birds -- fall bird sounds and we have a lot of brids passing through right now. they don't sing as much as the spring but you can hear quite a few in this video

let's see if this gets done: smokey big and shy, intesting light

We had the harvest festival at Hawthorne Valley today and I'm beind. And the kids are not asleep when I can write in peace. We'll see how far I get with this... I may put up another tonight.

Here's the folder:

So Smokey is shy, huge and shy. Which is sweet. As you'll see he is afraid of horses. Cloud, the little poodle, on the other hand, is completely indifferent.

Smokey took some work, some quiet walks by himself.... now he's more comfortable.

There was some fog early in the morning and I had the barn lights on ... it makes for some eery nice light.

Ruby messing up the buckets (typical retriever)... little dogs mad at me

So a new group today. Open this link in another window:
http://glencadia.com/videos/07sept28

There are some videos from yesterday that included the dogs that went home yesterday.

Here is some of what's going on: I have two little dogs that are not too friendly to me.

Napoleon is acting afraid of me but he was lovely-dovey in the van, so I'm not too worried about it. I just have to put the other dogs in another area and sit there and he'll come. He already half comes now. He actually liked my last night but fogot this morning.

Winston is another story. At least I can be near him without him getting mad. He only likes my wife and son. She went to work and he went to school, so poor winston is stuck with me. I though Wellington and Winston might be a good couple so I put them together.

Everyone else: no issues. Ruby is the one messing up all the water buckets, as in the video below, and that is really annoying: put all clean water out and she messes them all up right away. Coco and Barkley are from the same house but they aren't so good eating together after all... Coco is a little bossy which is not what I would have guessed. Barkley HATES horses: I have to reming Jim!

Some geese in one video. They are flying north in the video. They're not ready to go south yet, still grouping up. And when they leave, they fly high up and at night... Not so many this year around the house.

Here's what we got today from my camera (the ones that start with MVI):
6838: Wellington and Winston after breakfast
6839: Wellington waiting to go in the house, Mako howling from the barn, Buddy showing up
6840: Coco Barkley inside the house about to go out with Jim
6841: Everyone out in the yard, Napoleon barking at me, Theo doing a little howl.
6842: all of them standing around me, liltte outside tour
6843: inside, still working on napoleon
6844: he's coming in! all the others...
6845: everyone including ruby and her bucket

different dog every day to meet the school bus to freak the bus driver out

go to glencadia.com/videos and look for today!
http://glencadia.com/videos/07sept25/

Okay, today we have a trip to the school bus, Ollie catching a frog, Jim working on replacing a door in the dog house.

I've decided to just work slowly on Winston. Keep him around me all the time and wait for him to come to me. No need to hurry. He'll either come around or he won't, since he likes kids and women, he'll be fine.

Two different video cameras. Jim likes to use his own. Good thing he came to take everyone out, I ended up pretty beat from driving this morning. Baby woke me up at 6.

We'll need that new door for winter. It's in now. I want to be able to secure half the space and only heat one room downstairs and 3 upstairs. Except for xmas, that will be plenty for the winter. That's what the construction is about.
