stills while I wait for this video to upload

Tomorrow I'm going to sick Buckley on the geese. We have too many wild geese and Buckley has a good anti-goose track record. Why didn't I think of that?
This video is taking FOREVER to upload. My internet connection suddenly dropped to very slow and I don't know why.
We went in the pumpkins. We went in the pond. More to come tomorrow.

it cooled off

Weather is perfect today. Click on screen captures (pictures) to see larger images.
There is a black line to the right of the video. That is a stick. The motor that opens and closes the lens cap on the video camera is broken, so I propped it up with a stick. I need to remove the cap itself: that'll be better. And the editing is a little haphazard. Oh, and the sound and the images are not lined up at some points... strange, but oh well.

Also, as you will see, Labor Day Weekend means County Fair up here.

Henry got a little nick on his ear. He's fine.
Petie was doing a little growling.
It'll take a while to get the video up and running.

a proper glencadia blog entry
This is how the blog is supposed to be: a good long video with every dog in it (for sure!) and a nice dog report.
Anyone get it to work on an iphone? Supposed to.
Charlie - has a hot spot and is chewing it... might need a collar on his head to stop it
Mackey - hope that thing on his head won't scar.
Shiela - got into with someone and got a nick on the ear... she's been better since then
Maggie Blue - limping, I emailed you
Finn - eating tons, not whining at all
Buzz - doesn't like Bill... and you guys live near each other, sort of... they worked it out
Bogey - not nervous for one second although first time here
Tilo - can't deal with a big group of dogs but does okay with one at a time, like Frankie, who he defers to, very smart
Buckley - running and playing as you see in the video
Clover - great, lovely...
Griffin - he barks if I don't let him have the complete run of the place and he gets stuck upstairs and needs help getting downstairs
Maximus - comic relief, along with the ducks
Ruby - great... I can't think what to say
Sam, Alex, Billie - Lotta, my daughter, loves these guys. Billie is making friends with the cat.
Gertie - she nibbles your hand to get a pet, very sweet
Red - won't stay in the small dog area
Moses, Clementine - Clementine took off when we went for a walk, which was a surprise since I was concerned about Moses, who isn't as good usually... she came back soon enough.
Lucie (small yellow) - can't be with the small dogs: too pushy... honorary big dog
Sadie - an angel
LouLou Brutus - not angels... but having a ball, a real complete ball and never sit still all day long
Bailey - doesn't act old
Reilly - little bit on the lazy side
Stella - a good camper, great dog
Lucy (black) - very fast, doing great
Lucy (skinny yellow) - lost a little weight, so we're giving her double portions and leaving her by herself part of the day to eat
Wellington - tries to keep all the dogs from coming out for a walk... acting up a little this morning
Bill - his scar was a bit red and we put the ointment on it although it was long since healed
PJ - too fat, nice
Tina, Frankie - same
Tanja - she's doing well now
Choks - doing great

yesterday and today and videos should work on an iphone
One from yesterday, one from today. Lucie didn't like Finn, so I put her in another room. I sent Bill in there to keep her company, until he barked. Now Lucie mellowed out and isn't bothering Finn, so they are all back together... and following Rielly's lead and chilling. Couldn't be quieter and mellower than it is right now.

picture day
I couldn't find my good video camera (which also takes still but they aren't very good) but I did have my still camera (which takes video but they aren't very good). I decided to make this picture day and take stills.
Where did I put that video camera? It drives me crazy. I keep putting things somewhere... argh!
Stills are much hard to take, by the way. It takes much longer because they have to settle down a little and then look at the camera more or less... and then the shot doesn't work, shadows or blurry, or the dog moved...
You can print these out and get yourself a souvenir of your dog's trip to camp. I guess the shipping and handling might be too much for one picture. You could get a nice 8x10 or your dog too.

I did also do a video:

comprehensive dog report and video
The dog news for 8-14-2010:
NOTE ABOUT THE VIDEO: I had a great shot for the end, with the trail from the pond, which is more like a mud pile now that it's so dry, to the house, and Sumi waiting for the boys, then following them home, then the ducks and geese bringing up the read. The ending shot, which is a perfect ending, was so good I put it at the beginning so you wouldn't miss it, since the end of the video wasn't as good as the beginning and some of you might not make it to the end.
.... Jasper is a bit nervous but coming around. Milli is popular with the kids at this very second and much more relaxed and friendly, which is helping Jasper come around... Trouve has funny bat ears... Lucie decided to be the boss of the little dogs... Peanut is a sweetheart... Bear has accepted Bosley as his guide and overseer, as the two of them develop their passionate relationship... Bobby will be going for a pony ride when I saddle up for the kids, stay tuned for video... Sadie does not respond if I call her the wrong name, which I do in the video... Bodhi is raising a bit of hell... Django keeps his cool once again ... Clarence is a maniac and cannot possibly live in an apartment in Manhattan, impossible to imagine... Bailey took some time to get used to this strange environment but has ... Mocha jumped the fence again ... Maggie Blue is extremely happy to roll in manure and bark at a tennis ball... Jenny is a-okay.... kids put KZ away for chasing chickens and biting the tail of a duck .... Pepper's eye is better and he won't stay behind any doors and has tons of energy.... Berna is very sweet... will she really run off on me this time if I let her run in the field?... Sugar is the perfect farm dog: goes after rats and mice but not chickens or ducks or cats a and never wanders away from the homestead... Sugar went hunting in the crawl space of the barn today and seems to have had some success....Sugar is the hero of the day... Stella adjusted to the situation quickly and is having a terrific time, in tip-top shape... Scout and Silas: do they have a secret language? What strange noises they both make, a whine/bark hybrid and they both do it... Boon, what a nice old guy... Cali, running around, knocking into other dogs and making them mad.... Sumi is spending this vacation on the back porch and played about 4 hours of fetch and is quite pooped. Looks and acts much like my dog Gustov, and those two are very happy together. Sumi is another great farm dog... Barley is as sweet as can be, yet seems to snap at everyone in the van, very odd... but doing great.... Coco is fixed, right? She seems to be excessively popular with the boys... Charlie Murphy is a steady and reliably good dog, had some kind of scratch on the face that is healed but the hair hasn't grown back, very tiny .... Juliet looks like Sumi and Gustov, so watch the video carefully... she is reserved until she gets going.... she likes to sit upstairs with Scout. Very loyal couple, Juliet and Scout: they eat out of one bowl even when many bowls are available... Scout didn't eat enough breakfast so I'll try to spruce up dinner... Mingus has been a very good boy... Diamond doing great.... Lola has been perfect.... Bond seems to want to be boss, which can lead to trouble... but so far, no fight... have to keep an eye on him.... Mendl is more complicated than necessary for a friendly old lab: both too submissive and too pushy at the same, confusing time.... Tattoo: doing terrific and having a fine old time... Bill comes perfectly when called and is not pushy at all: he's like a different Bill these days... Lily and Noah: Noah's eyes have a lot of gook in the morning and they seem to stick together more and more as time passes... Charlie is a perfect camper. He's like family by now... Ringo Starr can be kind of stupid, provoking big dogs through the fence... but not so stupid as to provoke them when there is no fence... The German kids love Ringo... Choks is excellent, if still needs to be away from the big group when I'm not there, since they do bother him...
NOTE ABOUT THE VIDEO: I had a great shot for the end, with the trail from the pond, which is more like a mud pile now that it's so dry, to the house, and Sumi waiting for the boys, then following them home, then the ducks and geese bringing up the read. That's about all I can think to say... other than check back tomorrow and we'll see if I have the energy to keep making these this week... I was pretty pooped by the end of all this, since no one was here to help me work today. If you know someone who likes dogs who wants to show here and grab a broom: hired. I'll be okay next week when all my regular folks get back in town.

if a picture is worth 1000 words, how much is a video?
Here is my plan: go out and work with the dogs, walking and cleaning, then, with whatever rags I happen to have on, make a video of myself, looking dirty, sweaty and disheveled.
Some of the stuff I wrote about in the last entry is captured in the video below, including Turbo kissing Gustov and Maggie Blue trying to get a non-existent ball.
Here is the extra, one minute:

talk story
It's raining cats and dogs right now and I don't want to get my video camera wet. It's a shame because today was the day I planned to do a long, fun video: the horses were off the field, so we had room to run, the barn was all nicely cleaned up when Amy came to work yesterday. But no video today.
Tomorrow I promised a video.
Instead of a video I will talk story (I did live in Hawaii for a year, so its okay for me to talk a little story). You might want to do a find / search for your dog's name since I might mention your dog in a chapter about another dog, if they are hanging out together.
MURI: We have three dachshund and Muri is the biggest. Fattest and longest. But they are all together and they stay together, as if they somehow know they are dachshunds.
BAILEY: He is more subdued than usual. Maybe he is getting older? He snuck into the small dog area this morning and I left him there. He seemed to like it.
PANDA AND BLANCHE: How cute. They ran around with the big dogs all morning yesterday and seemed to enjoy it. They are the spunky little balls of fun.
BRADY: Brady looks at me and wags his tail the whole time I'm there. He never jumps on me or tries to run out of a door he knows he's not supposed to, he just lets me know that if I feel like playing, he's ready. Then when I usually don't play with him, as I am cleaning or feeding or whatever, he doesn't seem really disappointed and goes off to play with the dogs. Nice disposition.
ECHO: I had Echo with Ellie, a dog who was here for a long time and needed a home. After a year, Jim who works here found a home for her, which is great news and I'm very happy. But Echo lost his partner. When he goes in and out of the room, he seems fine with the other dogs. And he doesn't bark at them through the fence anymore. He also tried to eat his way out of the wire fence but gave up after a day with Ellie. Now he's alone but he really seems okay with other dogs. I know: I will try him with my dog Gustov next. Everyone likes Gustov. Also, he will go a whole day without eating, then eat double the next day. I guess that's okay, since he's by himself right now, but if Gustov is in with him, it won't work.
HUDSON: Hudson also snuck into the small dog area. He is right now sitting outside in the rain. I sent him into the house and he stayed there for awhile, I turned my back and he's back out in the rain. He was playing relentlessly with PLUTO, so in awhile I'll make sure they get back together in a bit.
ALICE: She's a different dog this time. I started her right away with the small dogs and she is not a bit nervous. She comes right to me with her tail wagging if I want to take her for a walk, she plays, she eats with gusto. A big improvement.
MAGGIE BLUE: Maggie has discovered a new game: she takes her tennis ball and throws it into my shit bucket, then digs into the shit wood shavings mix to get her now shit covered ball back out and, in the process, throw the stuff I just shoveled off the floor out of the bucket and back on the floor.
Needless to say, I don't really like this game.
Then she has another game: She puts her ball next to the fence somewhere, plays with a different ball, then goes back to the fence to get the first one, but forgets where on the fence she left it. After cruising up and down the fence looking for the ball, and failing, she picks some spot along the fence arbitrarily and tries to chew through the wire to get the ball, sort of like the drunk at night that looks for his keys under the lamppost, not because he thinks that's where the keys are but because the light is better there.
This game I don't love either.
PLUTO: Pluto has a terrible habit of diving into my brand new, fresh buckets and making them filthy. He usually does all the buckets the first time I fill them. The next time I empty and refill the buckets, he only does one or two. LUCY (two different eye colors) will join him in this activity if she sees him do it. If Pluto gets time out for bucket wrecking and goes in a room with only a bowl of water (which he can't dream of swimming in), Lucy doesn't do it. Also, Hudson and Pluto have been playing relentlessly. He's a beautiful dog.
MAX: Max is happy and friendly and doesn't really have a story other than stealing everyone's breakfast before he eats his own.
REILLY AND TURBO: See MURI. Also, these guys are the friendliest little guys. Reilly does wander a bit when I let them out but not too bad. Turbo loves the big dogs, especially mine. Very sweet.
DAISY: Usually she takes a day to settle in. This time it was only one night. It's quite consistent. This time she was fighting with everyone on the first night, I put her by herself, Amy let her out in the morning and she's been fine every since.
LADY LULU: Lady and I can be best friends and she is super affectionate. Yet, the next time I call her she comes 90% of the way to me, then turns and runs when I try to pet her. Then I take her for a walk and she is my best friend again. If I call her, she comes as close as she can but far enough that I can't pet her. But then I take her out again and she cuddles right up to me. She seems like the dogs and plays and runs a lot.
SPENCER: Just before I went home on Thursday, Spencer started hiding upstairs. After I left, he seemed more confident. So I guess there was a dog in that group that went home on Thursday he didn't like.
Now he is officially an honorary small dog and unlike some of the other big dogs that slipped in there, Spencer can stay with the little ones.
ANDYWALTER: He refused to come out of the house with the doorman. I carried him to the van. He's quite greedy when he likes the food, so I have been feeding him some special tidbits, since he refuses to eat the regular stuff. He's quite happy with the dascunds and jack russells. He perked up and has some energy. He'll be fine.
SAMANTHA: She seemed to want to stay outside last night. If I insist, she will come in but I let her stay out until it started to rain, then made her come in. She was on limited socialization due to growling for a day or so but now she's with all the dogs and seems fine.
PORK CHOP: When it was hot I was worried about Pork Chop. Still he drank plenty. We managed to keep him cool. He stands right next to my foot and follows me around.
FRANKIE AND TINA: I don't think anyone from this family reads this.
TY: Ty has to eat by himself and he takes his time. He's doing okay. He does have a spot under a tree where he can sleep in the crook of the roots and spends time there, or under the stairs in the dog house. I think he's doing well.
RIPLEY: Doing great. Happy, healthy and playing.
FENWAY: Fenway has been quiet. Why? Because I haven't tried to make a video. She really only seems to bark in the videos. Otherwise, a-okay.
CHARLIE (cocker spaniel): He looks for the pieces of food that other dogs drop when they eat. He will even try to fight a dog 4 times bigger than him over a single kibble of food. I hope he doesn't get fat.
BUCKLEY: Doing great. Happy, healthy and playing.
LUCY: See Pluto.
CHOKS: Doing great. Happy, healthy and playing.
PHOENIX: Phoenix has a habit of going up the stairs and getting stuck. I have to help her down and she seems fine. Then, when I'm not looking, she goes back up. She likes it up there, obviously, but there is something about the stairs that seem to bother her. She is happy to walk down if I hold her collar. She can walk down easily but seems to lack the confidence to try. Otherwise, everything is good.
That's it for today. Video tomorrow.

Sunday around Noon
If you looked at this entry yesterday or early on the 4th of July, you would have missed the shorter video with the barn doors opening and closing. The shorter newer video is of the dogs that missed out on the longer older video from yesterday.
I think you can download the video from Vimeo and then try to quickly scan through for your dog. If you want to try to download it and watch it like that, you should click the link to the video and watch it on Vimeo's site.
The new video.
This seems to be a shorter version of the 18 minute video.
